About Us

Alejandro Gutierrez

Alejandro Gutierrez is a principal with Hathaway, Perrett, Webster, Powers, Chrisman & Gutierrez, APC. He is originally from Uruguay and is fluent in Spanish.

Alex received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 1982.

Alex’s practice is primarily in the areas of labor and employment, handling class action lawsuits and other litigation matters in federal and state courts. Alex handles wage and hour matters, including overtime, meal break and unpaid wages on termination, as well as unreimbursed expenses, misclassifications as an independent contractor, discrimination and wrongful termination matters. He was counsel on a class action matter that resulted in one of the largest per class member recovery in California history.

Alex handles matters before administrative agencies, such as the California Fair Employment and Housing Commission and the California Department of Industrial Relations.

Alex is a member of the California State Bar, the Ventura County Bar Association and is authorized to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Court.

Alex lives in Ventura with his wife, Kathy, three children, Jason, Lauren, and Nicole, Lauren’s husband, Jeremy and granddaughter Rowan. Outside the office, Alex enjoys flying, golf and traveling.

Brett McMurdo

Brett B. McMurdo is an associate with Hathaway, Perrett, Webster, Powers, Chrisman, and Gutierrez.

He practices in the areas of employment, education, bankruptcy, personal injury, and business associations. He also assists in many of the Hathaway specialty areas. Brett has appeared in both state and federal courts from San Diego County to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Prior to joining the Hathaway Firm, Brett was an associate at an insurance litigation firm where he specialized in breach of contract and bad faith actions. He also has substantial experience litigating municipal cases.

Brett received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his law degree from the University of California, Davis, where he served as an Editor of the UC Davis Law Review. He is a member of the Ventura County Bar Association.

Brett lives in Ventura with his wife, Missy.

Coleen De Leon

Coleen De Leon is a certified paralegal. Ms. De Leon received her degree in French at the Collège International de Cannes in France. She went on to earn her paralegal certification in 2002 after attending the Legal Assistantship Program at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She has over 25 years of experience in civil litigation with expertise in wage-and-hour class actions. Coleen has also worked on multiple appeals.
